1913 Stock Certificate - Chicago Latin School for Girls in Bloomington, Illinois For Sale

Authentic red serial-numbered stock certficate dated April xxxx for the Chicago Latin School for Girls. Serial number is #4; you may never see another serial number for any entity as low as this in your lifetime. Ornate blue border. No-nonsense profound document presentation with school name appearing on a sensible-looking, neatly-framed banner across the top-center. Embossed seal (but not gold seal) appears in lower left corner. Hand-signed at bottom by School Secretary and by School President Mabel Slade Vickery.
The Latin School of Chicago was founded in xxxx by a group of Chicago citizens who solicited Mabel Slade Vickery, a New England teacher, to come to Chicago to provide better education for their children. The school was opened with a small class of boys, and the first classes were held in private homes on the Near North Side. The parent-owned institution, which soon became known as "Miss Vickery's School," flourished, and, in xxxx, Miss Vickery, with her new associate Robert Peck Bates, was invited to expand the school, which at that time numbered 125 boys. In xxxx, the school moved to a brand new building owned by Miss Vickery and Mr. Bates and became the first Chicago Latin School. In xxxx a girls' section was incorporated by Miss Vickery as the Chicago Latin School for Girls, with its own building at 59 East Scott Street. The Boys' School and the Girls' Latin School of Chicago merged in xxxx to form the present school.
Backside contains pre-printed boilerplate language to accommodate prospective transfer of certificate ownership, but there is no writing on backside. Measures 8 3/8 X 10 7/8 inches.
Excellent condition on paper still crisply fresh and well-preserved. No flaws. Perfect centering.
