Prepare, maintain, and distribute financial and statistical records and reports related to specialized area Identify and resolve balancing and/or reconciling issues Adhere to compliance, records management, department and company policies Exhibits State Farm's customer service philosophy to customers and associates, and maintains a positive attitude in a fast paced environment WHAT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION? Develop basic knowledge of financial practices and principles Enter accounting data with an acceptable level of speed and accuracy Utilize and understand procedures, reference manuals, and system resource tools Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of subject matter and procedures for assigned team Proactively identify issues, propose solutions, and take responsibility for implementing changes ITEMS OF NOTE May be required to work irregular hours during periods of heavy workload or to meet deadlines May be required to work non-standard work hours or work week Serves as back-up for others within the unit or department ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The open position is within the Securities Processing & Reporting Unit of Investment Accounting. The unit is responsible for the daily accounting for certain State Farm mutual funds and insurance company portfolios. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, utilizing accounting software to conduct accrual based bookkeeping for the various mutual funds and insurance portfolios, including processing investment transactions and recording income, expense, and general journal entries. The position also requires daily and monthly bank account and ledger reconciliations, the preparation of financial statements and audit materials, and ongoing communication with both internal and external business partners. Skills/Experience: * Basic knowledge of accounting; bookkeeping experience a plus. * Ability to prepare, understand, and balance accounting transactions in a timely and accurate manner. * Effective oral and written communication skills. * Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines. * Demonstrate good organization skills. * Ability to protect the integrity of confidential information. * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel a plus.
